Northodox nets second Byrne Liverpool mystery

Northodox has secured Across the Water, the second instalment in Jack Byrne’s Liverpool Mystery series.

"We were thrilled to take on book two in the Liverpool Mystery series, reconnecting with characters, Vinny and Anne as the investigation continues in Ireland. A timely and emotional search into Irish history and the effects of the diaspora. Jack is an exceptional talent and a born storyteller." Northodox Editorial director Ted O’Connor

Editorial director Ted O’Connor acquired world English language rights from Clare Coombes at the Liverpool Literary Agency. Across the Water will be published March 2022.

The publisher wrote: "This second in the series follows a gang member on the run from Liverpool to Ireland in 1974 in a deadly game of chicken with Special Branch and Irish republicans. We meet Vinny and Anne once again, as they visit Ireland, determined to find out the truth about how Vinny’s father died—but someone is trying to stop them. Two narratives, 40 years apart, explore the relationship between the English, the Irish and the Anglo-Irish."

The first instalment, Under the Bridge (Northodox Press), was described as "a tense thriller that unfolds beautifully" by Tony Evans, former author and football editor for the Times

O’Connor commented: "We were thrilled to take on book two in the Liverpool Mystery series, reconnecting with characters, Vinny and Anne as the investigation continues in Ireland. A timely and emotional search into Irish history and the effects of the diaspora. Jack is an exceptional talent and a born storyteller."

Byrne added: "I am excited that Northodox Press are continuing the Liverpool Mystery series with the second book Across the Water, a thriller showing the links between the people of England and Ireland, the good, the bad and the ugly."
